Potty Training & Daily Routine
Small breeds have small bladders and thrive on predictable routines. Consistency with feeding, rest, playtime, and potty breaks dramatically improves training success.
What Slows Training:
- Expecting bladder control too early
- Punishing accidents
- Inconsistent routines
Pee pad and outdoor training can both work successfully when approached consistently and patiently.
Grooming & Daily Care
Coat Care
- Maltese: Light frequent brushing
- Bichon Frisé: Structured brushing to prevent mats
- Maltichon: Moderate routine maintenance
Bathing is generally recommended every 3–4 weeks unless otherwise advised.
Most Overlooked Care Areas
- Dental care
- Ear cleaning
- Eye hygiene
Early positive grooming experiences build trust, easier maintenance, and healthier long-term coat and skin condition.
Major Red Flags
- “Free puppy, just pay shipping”
- No screening questions
- Pressure to pay quickly
- No verifiable health records
Ethical breeders prioritize health, temperament, compatibility, and long-term placement over rushed sales. Responsible screening protects both the puppy and the family.
